Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update begins rolling out to Nexus S

After being left to wonder if Android 4.1 Jelly Bean would actually come to the Nexus S, it seems that Google has begun the roll out. Unfortunately, for the moment it seems that only some carriers are getting the update, so some Nexus S owners may be left waiting for a while. In any case, Google announced via the Nexus Twitter account today that the update roll out has started, so at least we know that it’s underway.

“We’ve started rolling out Android 4.1, Jelly Bean, to Nexus S phones on a number of carriers with more to come. Enjoy!” the tweet reads. Some Nexus S owners may have received the update as early as last night, but now that it’s actually be confirmed by Google, more and more Nexus S owners should be getting OTA notifications soon. Ubergizmo says that the list of carriers includes T-Mobile, H3G, 02, Rogers, and Vodafone (in most countries), so if you use one of those carriers, keep an eye out for that notification!

The Nexus S is just the second smartphone to receive the update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, with the Galaxy Nexus being the first to receive it. HTC has confirmed that its One Series phones will also be getting the update, but unfortunately, didn’t get very specific as to when.
